This safari is a fun way to experience this small island with a big history. Your safari will take you off the beaten path as well as stop at well-known attractions including Lighthouse Park (entrance fee is included). After the informative tour, you will relax on the beach with a complimentary rum punch and sand chair.Enjoy an excursion that features some of Grand Turk’s best known attractions as well as off the beaten path locations. After you are greeted by your guide at the cruise center, you will depart by an open-air, safari type vehicle. As you make your way towards the northern end of the island, your guide will provide some interesting information about Grand Turk’s history and culture. Your first stop will be the John Glenn capsule replica that commemorates his splashdown just off the coast of Grand Turk. You will then make the short trip the Salt House located near town. Here, the guide will provide fascinating information regarding Grand Turk’s “salt-raking” past. You will learn about the impact of the rise and fall of the salt industry on the small island as well as discover the lifestyle and conditions of the era. Then, continue to the next stop, the North Wells, by driving along historic Duke and Front Streets. North Wells was once the site of a settlement of salt-rakers and those who first “founded” the island after the Taino and Lucyan Indians. This rustic and largely untouched area has a very interesting history. Today it remains a fresh water oasis for wild horses and donkeys and a bird habitat. Following your visit to the North Wells, you will visit the lighthouse (your entrance fee is included) and learn some of the history of this structure built in 1852. Next you will stop at Pillory Beach where you can do some shelling, soak-up the sun or enjoy a beverage or bite to eat at the adjacent resort’s beach bar. A welcome rum punch, a bottle of water and a complimentary sand chair is included.
