After hotel pickup in George Town, climb into a fun, open-air 4x4 Land Rover and get ready to experience a variety of wonders located on the western side of Grand Cayman Island.

In the northwestern corner of the island, enter Barker’s National Park and learn from your knowledgeable guide about the island’s first government-sponsored nature preserve of 100 acres (40 hectares) near West Bay. Drive down a tranquil stretch of white sand with views of arching branches of thick mangrove woods on one side and the sparkling Caribbean on the other.

Your journey through paradise includes a stop at Hell, a small town near West Bay. From a platform, eye the field of spiky black limestone formations and imagine horned creatures lurking in the rocky terrain. Learn about the town’s origins and stand beside the statue of a devil for a commemorative shot. Get a kick out of sending a postcard from the post office of Hell or leave with your passport stamped with the curious town name.

Rumble along in your vehicle to Tortuga Rum Cake Factory for a decadent treat uniquely produced in the Caribbean. Peering through the bakery’s large windows, watch rum cakes being made; each one is glazed by hand with oak-barrel-aged Tortuga Gold Rum and then vacuum-sealed for freshness. Sample some rum cake and then decide which flavored cakes to purchase and take home: original, chocolate, coconut, Blue Mountain coffee, key lime, banana or pineapple.

Encounter wildlife at Cayman Turtle Farm, a research and conservation center for sea turtles. Listen to how ‘turtling,’ the fishing of turtles as a source of meat, once provided income and led to the development of the Cayman islands in the 1600s and 1700s. Make your way to Green’s Breeding Pond and marvel at green sea turtles weighing more than 500 lbs (226 kg), and head over to Turtle Touch Tank, where you can reach in to touch the turtles.

After a morning of beach, rum cake, turtles and a short stint in Hell, you’ll be transported back to your George Town hotel.
