The Goteik Viaduct is a hundred year old bridge crossing between two towns of Pyin U Lwin built by the British. To get to the crossing, you have to ride a train which we caught out of Mandalay. Enjoy a day trip travel on one of the world’s greatest train rides transfer and sightseeing from Pyin Oo Lwin to Hsipaw.You will be collected from your hotel and transported to the train station where you will board the train early in the morning with your guide. The train line from Pyin Oo Lwin to Hsipaw passes through the hills of Shan state, over cascading rivers, and along the famous Gotyeik viaduct.
The bridge, completed in 1900, was at the time considered a world masterpiece. It is the highest bridge in Myanmar and, at the time it was finished, the largest railway trestle in the world. On the way, you will see some local sellers come up and down the carriages with lots of food and drinks. There are stops at a few stations where one can hop off.
After the bridge, disembark and enjoy a local lunch, before being taken by car towards Hsipaw, or back to Pyin Oo Lwin.
