The Golden Circle and South Coast Waterfall Private Tour

Pressed by time but what to see more? This is a compact tour that combines some of the most famous waterfalls in of South of Iceland and The Golden Circle, which is a popular route in Iceland that brings you to experience not only Iceland’s nature, but also geology and history. We will cover Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park where Viking settlers stood centuries ago to edict national laws, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss, the spectacular golden waterfall, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss.

Our first stop takes us to Thingvellir National Park where the oldest parliament was founded in the world over 1000 years ago. Many crucial events in Icelandic history took part here and it is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here you will also see how the earth is ever so slowly pulling apart along the North-America and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Next, we will visit the Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur where you can see geysers, hot springs, steam vents and eerie blue algae. Although the Great Geysir is relatively dormant, Strokkur, also being one of the largest and most powerful geysers and erupts almost every 5 minutes.
We then proceed to Gullfoss waterfall, which many consider to be the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, as it is both high and mighty and stumbles in a deep gorge. Gullfoss is in fact 2 separate waterfalls, the upper one has a 11m drop and the lower one with 21m, beautifully angled creating a dramatic cascade.

After Gullfoss we will head south, driving towards Eyjafjallajokull to find our final stops, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Seljalandsfoss is just over 60m surrounded by beautiful cliffs and slopes. There is a footpath behind the waterfall where depending on road conditions we can actually take a walk behind the waterfall for a different view.

Skogafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland. Also measures around 60m in drop, it boasts a width of 25m. On sunny days it’s not unusual to see double rainbow through the spray created by the waterfall.
