Elegant maiko dancers in ornate dress will dazzle you with kyo-mai, a dance originating in Kyoto. Learn how to assemble lovely displays in the traditional art of ikebana, flower arranging. Listen to the koto, a Japanese six-stringed zither that produces pleasant harmonies when played. You'll also hear Japan’s indigenous gagaku court music — traditionally performed at the imperial court, shrines and temples. Finally, watch kyogen, a form of theater that portrays life through comedy, and enjoy traditional bunraku, a type of Japanese puppet theater.
After the cultural show, walk with your guide to the Gion District, which is famous for its traditional houses. When you reach Gion Yoshi-ima, a traditional inn, enjoy the magical ambiance filled with candlelight as you dine on refined Kyoto cuisine. Your vegetarian dinner includes tofu, eggplant, renkon, ginger and shitake mushrooms. In this authentic setting, take part in a traditional tea ceremony after your delicious meal.
