Visit the Elephant Sanctuary in Kalaw while staying in Myanmar giving you the opportunity to get to know each of the amazing elephants and gain special understanding of their daily life after retired from lugging logs. Experience life with the elephants in their natural home, a freely roamed environment which is both safe and sustainable. Lunch and round-trip hotel transfer is included. Our driver will collect you from your hotel in Nyaung Shwe or Kalaw around 8am and head to the Elephant Sanctuary at Green Hill Valley, situated in the Shan hills. The sanctuary focuses on protecting the local ecology, elephants and traditions of the local people. Nature grows undisturbed in this private preserve, where all the elephants rest in their homeland.

Upon arrival, you have the opportunity to learn about Mahouts and interact with the elephants, cleaning and feeding them in their natural habitat. These giant mammals here don’t focus on entertainment like fancy riding, demonstrations or circus acts, as this is the place for retired timber elephants who had spent their lives lugging logs around.

Along the way, you will be introduced to the local village traditions and to the natural beauty of the surrounding forest. The area is known for fauna (birds, butterflies,) and flora (orchids, teak and bamboo forest). Green Hill Valley also aims to improve the health and education of the local villages. Their programs include re-planting and conserving the forest.

You will be treated to lunch during your visit, and then taken back to your hotel after a wonderful experience at the elephant sanctuary in Kalaw.
