During this full-day tour, you will cover several of these, including Jabreen Castle, built not for use in battle, but as a summer residence for the sultan. You will also see Bahla Fort, made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.After a pick up from your hotel, you will head to Nizwa, known for its rich culture and nature. Visit the Nizwa Fort, which has been strategically built atop a hill overlooking the ancient village with its colorful domes and bustling market below.
From here, proceed on to the Jabreen Castle about 28 miles (45 km) from Nizwa, the finest of Oman’s castles built during the late 17th century. It was built as a summer home for the sultan, and became a seat for Omani education and learning. The castle displays beautiful ceiling paintings and intricate wood carvings.
On the way back to Nizwa, make a short stop at the Bahla Fort, one of the first Omani forts to be built in the Islamic style. For years the fort had fallen into disrepair. Restoration began in the 1990s, and removed from the list of endangered sites in 2004.
In the late afternoon, you will return to Muscat.
