Sit back and enjoy the short drive to where you'll board a boat jetty to take a 2 to 3-hour boat ride down the Ayeyarwaddy River (depending on river conditions).
Upon arrival in Sale, the town that developed during the late Bagan era. You'll tour around Sale with a visit to the Yoke Sone Monastery, built in 1882 by King Thipaw, the last king of Myanmar to witness its exceptional woodcarvings on the outside of the building. You'll continue on to the nearly 150 year old teak monastery called Sarsana Yaungchi which was built earlier by his father King Mingdon where you'll be able to see the Ancient Buddha images, large antique cabinets decorated with a variety of floral motif with Myanmar painting done in gold and silver colors on silk fabric. Inside the cabinets you'll notice that it is filled with silk packets containing Buddhist scriptures written on palm leaves pertaining to the 18th century. Next to this beautiful monastery there is a monastic school for the village children and the teachers where if lucky, you may be able to witness how they study.
Next, you'll stop for lunch which will be provided to you. After lunch, you'll be able to enjoy a scenic 1.5 hour drive to Mount Popa. Mount Popa is dedicated to animist spirits known as nats and you'll have time to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the peak which you will definitely want to take photos as will witness one of the most breathtaking views you will ever see on this tour. At the foot of the mountain, you'll see Nat Shrines that contains a display of mannequin like figures representing the 37 Nat and is a major pilgrimage destination. You'll have some free time to explore the fascinating monasteries, stupas and shrines as well as the dramatic and mammoth-size view back across the Myingyan Plain.
Last stop on your way back to Bagan will be made at a local palm tree plantation. This relaxing break will give you the chance to observe the locals working with palm trees.
