Our first stop is Peles Castle in Sinaia, a mountain resort from the popular Prahova Valley. We’ll spend all afternoon in beautiful Brasov before we head back for Bucharest on the scenic Rucar-Bran Valley.
The summer residence of King Carol the 1st, this fairy tale castle from Sinaia is one of the most impressive castles in Romania and Europe. Built between 1873 and 1914 with visible elements of the German Renaissance style, but used as a residence since 1883, the castle was constructed after the plans of famous architects of the time. Close to Peles Castle lies Pelisor, the smaller, yet splendid residence of Queen Maria and King Ferdinand.
We have lunch in Sinaia.
One of the oldest cities in Romania and a key commercial point since the medieval ages between Transylvania and the Balkans, Brasov has one of the finest old city centers in the country. Monuments that date even from the 13th century attest the Saxon heritage of Brasov, once a fortress-city that closed in front of enemy attacks. Among the attractions we’ll see are the Black Church, the Town Square, the White Tower, the Black Tower, the fortification system, Sforii Street and many more centuries old sites.
