Combine the Piha and Waitakere Eco-Tour with a fun surf lesson at the most iconic surf destination in New Zealand, for an ultimate day trip to the West Coast, just 30-minutes from Auckland. You will discover subtropical bush, hidden waterfalls, see stunning panoramic views of the city and Waitakere Ranges, learn about Maori culture at the Arataki Visitor Centre, and enjoy with a delicious, fresh lunch at the Piha Cafe. In Piha, you will learn to surf with top internationally qualified instructors, in top of the range wetsuits and surfboards, and in a supportive, fun and safe environment.You will be picked up in the morning from your central Auckland accommodation by your Guide in comfortable transport. Times will be confirmed upon booking. From the city, it is an easy 30-minute drive to the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park.
The first stop is at the Arataki Visitor Centre, where you will see spectacular views of Auckland City and two harbours and learn about Maori carvings and traditions. You will see some of the stunning native plants and wildlife including, the Kauri tree and the weta, at this charming museum nestled in the Waitakere Ranges.
You will then delve deeper into lush New Zealand bush, where a fairly easy walk will bring you to one of Piha’s cascading waterfalls and see native wildlife such as long fin eels, keruru and pokeku.
You will be provided with light refreshments mid-morning.
With a stop at Piha's famous lookout point you will be able to take photos and admire the breathtaking location. We then head down to the beach where you will have a surf lesson (approximately 3-hours) with an internationally qualified instructor, including a full safety briefing and practice on the beach. All gear included, all you need are your swimmers and a towel!
After your lesson, you will enjoy some free time at Piha’s famous black sand beach. You can go for a walk up Lion Rock, paddle in the shallows or just relax. Lunch will be provided, you will be taken to the family-run Piha Cafe, where the kitchen will supply you with a freshly made lunch, made with local, seasonal ingredients (Vegetarian options available).
