Like most ancient cities, Srinagar intially developed on the banks of a river (Jhelum) and its old buildings have stood the test of time and hold a great historical and cultural significance today.
Next, you will see Khanqah of Shah-i-Hamadan, a mosque built in 14th century in honor of Mir Syed Ali Hamdani, who came to Kashmir with 700 Sayyids in 1372 AD. Continue on to Pather Masjid, the mosque built by Noor Jahan in 1623 AD, which consists of nine arches horizontally constructed. After, see the Maharaj Gunj bazrar spice market, a commercial hub which the old city has become famous for.
Another site to see is the tomb of the mother of Zain-ul-Abidin- an octagonal dome constructed in 1465 AD, over the grave of Sultan Zainulabidin’s mother. Next is Jamia Masjid, built by Sultan Sikandar in 1400 AD, whose attractions include the beautiful Indo-Saracenic architecture, a magnificent courtyard and 370 wooden pillars fashioned from the trunk of a single deodar tree, and room for 33,333 devotees.
Up next is the Naqshband Sahab, a shrine of the 17th-century consisting of alternating layers of wood and brick, to mitigate the impact of earthquakes. You will also see the Madin Sahab shrine, one of the most attractive tombs in Srinagar, which was constructed in memory of the St. Madin Sahib, and is situated north of the Madin Sahib mosque at Zadibal. The exterior of the walls embellished with glossy tiles, is an attractive style of 15th century Kashmir architecture.
A few other places you will visit are Ali Masjid, Imam Bargah in Hasanabad, which is the second oldest shrine, the Imambara,
and Hari Parbat Fort, a hill overlooking Srinagar.
After the tour, you will be dropped back off to your hotel in Srinagar.
