This northern remote corner of the alpine kingdom can be easily accessed from our reception in Drakensberg through Monontsa Pass. Travelers will meet villagers on horseback in their traditional multicolored balaclavas and blankets, a village walk will provide the curious outsiders a close encounter with community members and a visit to the local school will create an authentic social interaction with the local children.

A hike or horse riding in a lush river gorge will also take travelers to meet the famous Lesotho shepherds and have lunch with them. Together with the local community, travelers will taste local beer, meet the local traditional healer and even get a chance to meet the local chief. This is not a staged “cultural village” especially built for the tourists; it is a real life experience that will sear itself in travelers’ mind long after the mountain vistas fade.
