West of Luang Prabang is one of the city’s most adored natural phenomenons, the Kuang Si Waterfalls. Enjoy this breath taking sight where you can hike, swim and soak up the beauty of the surrounding area. The waterfalls are the biggest in the Luang Prabang area with three tiers leading to a 50-metre drop into spectacular azure pools before flowing downstream. The pools make great swimming holes and are very popular by all.In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Luang Prabang at around 8am and drive to the falls (drive takes approximately 1-hour). Please bring a clean set of clothes and towels with you.
Stop at the local Hmong Village of Ban Na Ouane where you'll witness the daily life of this ethnic Hill-tribe in the northern part of Laos.
Arrive in morning at the main parking area and take a short hike into the forest before reaching the Kuang Si Waterfalls.
The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside which lead to the main fall with a three-tiered cascade. The water collects in numerous turquoise blue pools as it flows downstream. The cascades that result are typical of travertine waterfalls with amazing scenery, and an abundance of flora and fauna surround the area.
After enjoying the scenery, you are free to swim in one of clear pools. There are also some hiking paths around the waterfalls, this allows each visitor deeper and closer touch of nature. Below the tiered limestone pools lies the Khmu village Ban Thapene. The Khmu men are especially good basket weavers and can sometimes be watched crafting these, still used in the daily lives of the Laotians.
A picnic lunch will be served by the waterfall. Enjoy the scenery around the waterfall for a short time before heading back in the direction of Luang Prabang. Stop along the way at Ban Xiang Khong, a village, well-known for making paper the traditional way and Ban Xieng Lek, a weaving village. At around 5:30pm arrive back at your hotel in Luang Prabang.
