We will start at its highest point possible and enter the river as a small creek and wind through the jungle past an elephant camps.A 45-minute drive to south of Chiang Mai in the Mae Wang valley flows the Mae Wang river. At the start of the rainy season it starts to fill and kayakers get a taste of great jungle kayaking. There is a 3 to 4 hour trip that a sports minded and motivated beginner kayaker can handle, Class 1 and class 2 rapids and plenty of jungle to navigate around makes this Trip an interesting challenge.
This is the perfect river to learn navigating through harmless rapids and enjoy the density of the Jungle. As there are several elephant camps on the way, we cant help wonder at these majestic animals as we kayak by. The lower part of the river is reserved for advanced kayakers, here they get to play between boulders and kayak into the Lost Canyon, at the mouth of the valley featuring class 3 and 4 rapids.
