Full-Day Hue Rice Agriculture Experience
tp. Huế, Vietnam
Trip Type: Day Trips
Duration: 8 hours
Although the Mekong River Delta produces most of Vietnam’s rice, central Vietnam’s rice culture around Hue has taken big steps forward to get recognized as a main rice hub. From planting to cultivation, the wet-rice techniques used in rural Hue are among some of the most interesting and preserved in Vietnam. We head out into the countryside to see, experience and take part of this agricultural phenomenon by using eco-friendly means such as bicycles and a local rowing sampan. This tour is purely designed to show you the deep rooted history of Vietnam's wet-rice culture.

Our first stop of the day is an ancient village, darting back to the 18th century and has gained name and fame for its tile-roofed bridge. Built two centuries ago the covered bridge of Thanh Toan is unique in that only two exist in Vietnam (the other being in Hoi An). Constructed as a tribute to the villagers, the bridge has survived many natural disasters such as floods, storms and wars. However after it was damaged, the villagers always contributed to repair, renovate and preserve it and it remains the symbol of perseverance of the village and its residents.
Heading further into the countryside after this introduction to Vietnamese old village's administration, its typical culture and institutions, an experience of a life time waits; a working-but-enjoying day as a local farmer. Examples of a labor-intensive day will pass the revue – with you actively partaking into these activities such as engaging in some processes of rice farming, picking vegetables, fishing and making local handicraft.
Preparation of your own lunch with local ingredients is again a part of the local experience and thus enhances the feeling of being a part of the farming community for a day. The afternoon will be an enjoyable ride by bicycle and a relaxing sampan trip over small rivers, bringing out relaxing moments and again, more cultural engagement.
Return back in the afternoon to your Hue hotel.
