The tour includes a guide, return transportation from Auckland, scenic stops, photo opportunities in Matamata, a 2 hour guided Hobbiton Movie Set and free beer or cider at the Green Dragon Inn. You can choose to bring your own lunch or purchase in Matamata.
Leaving Auckland we welcome you on to our comfortable bus or minivan by our friendly driver. The travel to Matamata begins and our driver has a great selection of music and a fun way for everyone to introduce themselves. We stop at a cafe and lookout point on the way for a great photo opportunity.
At Matamata we stop for lunch (at your own expense), the village has a great bakery which we recommend or there are plenty of other options.
Our Hobbiton tour begins at 2pm with a Guided Movie Set Tour. This tour is approximately 2 hours long with 10 minutes for travel to and from the set. This includes 15 minutes in the Green Dragon Inn. You have a choice of an alcoholic or non alcoholic beer for free.
After your tour, there is some time allowed for souvenir purchases back at the information center. Our ride home takes a different scenic route back to Auckland, which also includes a break.
