Leave your hotel in the early morning with your guide and driver to a scenic drive along the central coastal road to Cau Hai town, situated next to Tam Giang lagoon - the largest one of its kind in Southeast Asia, and located 40 kilometers from Hue and a mere 60 kilometers north of Da Nang. This national park, which was extended in 2008, stretches from the coast to the Annamite mountain range near the Vietnam – Lao border.
After an introduction at the visitor's center, take an uphill scenic drive then a nice walk to the summit (1450 meters above sea level) to enjoy a stunning panoramic view over the east sea and valley and lagoon below. Get down to the cluster of an ancient French Villa where you will have a simple picnic lunch.
After lunch, start trekking down the Five Lake trails passing the medicinal plant garden, until Do Quyen Waterfall. Some parts are wet and can be slippery, so be attentive and use the supporting rope where available. Do Quyen Waterfall is an imposing 300 meters in height. If you are fit and healthy enough (one hour for this down-up hike of 689 steps), then head down to the bottom of the fall to full enjoy its beauty.
We head back to the main lane, freshen up and your private vehicle is waiting to take you down the winding road back to Hue. Again, make sure your camera is handy to grab the beautiful scenery from the window.
