Visit Chinchero, land of women weavers, learn their customs and taste their typical food' Let yourself be enchanted by its magical landscapes, and above all, its people, and the final visit the center of Andean textiles 'Kantu' where you will learn more about this famous Inca weaving techniques.
Early in the morning, we will depart from your hotel to the Kantu Interpretation Center for Andean Textiles located in the town of Chinchero, about 40 minutes away.
Welcoming and introduction, meeting between visitors and our host and master weavers. Beverage service of herbal tea, coca or muña.
Continuing on we will leave the Center for short trip to the community of Ocutuan on the shores of Piuray Lake for about 10 min, giving us a chance to take in the spectacular views of this area, as well as appreciate local flora and fauna.
Arriving to the community our host families will welcome us and introduce each other while we take part in the Andean traditional meeting – the chewing of coca leaves and sharing of the ancestral drink known as chicha de jora before beginning our activities.
Local Andean traditional foods will be available for sampling. Native varieties of potatoes, as well as Oca (Oxalis tuberosa), Añu or Mashua (Tropaeolum tuberosum), and Fava Beans, to name a few. We will be sharing ancient legends and local stories and do an introduction to the breeding of Guinea pigs.
Midday we will return to the Kantu Weaving Center for a traditional Andean lunch, complete with soup, main dish and drink.
After lunch there will be a demonstration and intro class on weaving. The entire process of production of a textile, starting from the sheep or alpaca wool, spinning, plant dyes, color schemes, and hand-weaving art to finished product.
Free time to explore the stands in the center, each with its own unique goods; purchase crafts or weaving from the artisans themselves from the area.
Afternoon transfer back to your hotel.
