This small group walking tour and photo class will take you to the site of several of Ansel Adams' famous photographs of Yosemite Valley, guided and taught by a Staff Photographer from The Ansel Adams Gallery.
Ansel Adams immortalized Yosemite National Park through his classic black & white images. His work expanded the popularity of the young art form and captured a universal reverence for the Earth that helped motivate the American environmental movement. You will visit a number of locations from which Ansel composed some of his most famous images, and have the opportunity to see the same scene through your lens.

Ansel never stopped exploring, or stopped learning how to use camera and film technology to express his artistic vision. Through The Ansel Adams Gallery's Photo Education program, you will also have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge to improve your ability to record your explorations and reealize your artistic vision.
This class is for those who wish to visit some of the scenes Ansel photographed and gain an understanding of the man widely regarded as the greatest photographer in the world. The class is led by a Staff Photographer from The Ansel Adams Gallery, and features a history of Ansel Adams, composing photographs, artistic intent, as well as some basic lessons in photographic technique.
The class will meet at The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite Village and walk from there. Participants will spend 4 hours in the field, walking to different locations, and returning to the Gallery. The terrain is mostly flat, and for the most part along paved trails, approximately 2-3 miles (3-5km). There will be four to five stopping points where Ansel made one of his photographs, and the group will have an opportunity to ask questions, discuss Ansel and photography, and begin to understand the composition choices Ansel made while composing that image. At each point, you will be able to see the choices Ansel made with composition and emphasis.
Recommended for beginner to intermediate camera and smart phone technical proficiency.
This is a field-oriented class, with discussion focused on Ansel Adams, photography, and composition. Please dress accordingly for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring drinking water and sun protection.
There is a maximum of 10 participants per class
The route can easily be customized for participants in wheelchairs, although we ask you contract us in advance to plan accordingly.
