Pure art!For many people, Barcelona is the third great flamenco capital in Spain, after Andalusia and Madrid and Los Tarantos has been – and still is – witness to all this. The Los Tarantos tablao opened in the Plaça Reial in the autumn of 1963 as a club destined to become an essential reference for flamenco in Barcelona.
At Los Tarantos you will enjoy a full flamenco show, with guitar, singing and dancing and, of course, the most representative palos from the genre, a different cuadro is scheduled for each day of the week. The performances are divided into half-hour sessions at 8.30, 9.30 and 10.30pm. The reasonable ticket prices and proven quality of the musicians and dancers performing every night have made the Tarantos one of the most popular tablaos in the city, and there are normally queues every night of the week for each of the three sets. The club welcomes both passing strangers to Barcelona who have found out about the show’s strict artistic credentials and local fans who come along drawn by the performers on the bill.
When it comes to drawing up the program for the tablao, the management of Los Tarantos takes into account the academic rigor of each group of performers, the track record of the members of the group, and their capacity to adapt to a standard format in which spectators can recognize the most characteristic traits of the flamenco art. The show makes no concessions of any kind to the tourist audience in the form of amateur or low-quality artists, but neither is it a session aimed exclusively at scholars of the Andalusian genre. This is a show for all audiences performed by a selection of professionals who have proved themselves in the world of flamenco.
Drink not included but you can ask for it at the bar. Seating is on a first come first served basis. It is recommended be there at least 20 minutes before the start of the show.
