After your pickup from your Ponta Delgada begin your drive to Fire Lake. Upon your arrival, begin the trek on a beaten earth track in a zone of pastures. Walk until you reach a water tank before turning to the right to ascend through the woods. See flora such as Eucalyptus, Australian Cheesewood, Accascias, and Kahila Garland lilies. A bit further into the forest, you will also find a few species of “Espadana”, a plant from New Zealand, which was woven and spun in an ancient factory whose ruins you can still visit.
Follow the signs until you reach the beginning of a water channel, along which the trail runs. Along the channel, you will find many species of endemic plants such as Uva-da-Serra, Green Heather, Laurustinus, Tamujo, and more. During the ascent there are several places from where you can enjoy a magnificent view towards the Southern coast of S. Miguel, namely a view of Vila Franca do Campo, its islet and Ribeira da Praia. Reach the bank of Lagoa do Fogo and observe the wild seagulls. After coming across this area, you will make your way back to the vehicle and return to your accommodations.
