Also a lot of colorful houses considered a great postcard view.Since 2008, the Favela Santa Marta was occupied by military police and turned the Rio's first favela model with new atmosphere, result of the peace project. Having been visited by many stars such as: Madonna, Michael Jackson and Vin Diesel. Today Santa Marta welcomes tourists with open arms and is proud to have people from all over the world visit this charming and colorful slum.
During this walking tour, you will be accompanied by a guide who is a local resident. They will take you around the small streets and you will be able to see the harsh reality of Rio’s favelas, as well learning a bit about its history and traditions. You will do the same route that Michael Jackson did when he visited the slum in 1996 to record the video for the song They Don't Care About Us. From the top of the neighborhood, you will have a views of Sugar loaf Mountain, the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Copacabana, and Christ the Redeemer.
