Tour departures vary with the seasons, however typical tours begin late morning from Kona and Waikoloa Hotel areas. We then make our way to the Saddle Road stopping to explore a lava tube and enjoy a picnic lunch. Then on to Hawaii's second largest city, Hilo. The cities architecture and local feel create a backdrop for the areas rich cultural and economic history.
From Hilo the tour proceeds from the lower Maunaloa slope to the summit of Kilauea and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park around mid afternoon. Once at the park we pay a visit to the summit caldera to see the current eruption during daylight hours then immerse ourselves in the landscape and geology by taking a short hike and visiting as many the parks climates as possible.
Following an afternoon of exploring, it’s time to sit down and enjoy a comfortable dining experience at Kilauea Lodge. One of the volcano area’s most historic locations. Meals are pre-order to maximize our time and included in the price of the tour.
Once dinner is completed it’s back to the caldera to see it’s fiery glow and experience the wonder of earth’s subterranean power.
Hot tea & cocoa are offered just before departing for our journey home.
Total tour length is 12 hours.
