Join this extraordinary opportunity to discover and visit Mt.Etna (90 km away from Messina), the biggest active volcano in Europe. Make a stop to Taormina to see the Greek Theatre, Corso Umberto and its exclusive shops and famous bars. You will admire the wonderful landscape and Isola Bella, a nature reserve and UNESCO Heritage site.After approximately a 1 hour and 40 minutes ride, you will reach the slopes of Etna, the highest volcano of Europe (more than 3.300 mt). During the tour, you will pass through the village of Zafferana Etnea that rises up on the southern side of the volcano. From here, enjoy the beautiful views of Etna and the wonderful coast below.
Then reach the mountain refuge Sapienza at the altitude of 1.900 mt. After a short break, visit the famous craters of Silvestri, placed in a wonderful typical lunar landscape. These craters were formed after the eruption of 1892. The street Zafferana Etnea leads to the refuge Sapienza, and to the funicular railway passes through the two craters Silvestri (one is above and the other below). This is the destination of all visitors who want to start the climbing of the Volcano, and where you will stop to enjoy the beautiful landscape which can be captured by a simple click.
After approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of visiting the volcano finishes, head to Taormina. Here you can have a walk along Corso Umberto (the ancient roman street Valeria) and a visit with a tourist guide or on your own to the Greek-roman theater, the oldest churches and monuments, the most exclusive shops, famous restaurants, pastries and ice cream shops to taste typical Sicilian specialties and sweets.
