Feel the pura vida of the Costa Rican people as you dance, dine, and drink your way through the barrios of Escazu! This San Jose tour shows you how locals like to unwind at the end of a day. You’ll share stories at a traditional cantina, snack on bocas, and learn a few dance moves as you take in 200 years of culture. Escazu is one of the most interesting cities to visit in Costa Rica, with more than 200 years of history. It’s known as the City of Witches, with lots of spooky stories to tell. On this San Jose walking tour, you’ll get to know more about Escazu’s vibrant culture as we unveil all the secrets of this marvelous city — and taste a few snacks along the way!

Your Costa Rica adventure begins with a visit to local cantinas, where you can indulge in dance classes, as well as plenty of food and drinks with the local people. We’ll stop at three or four traditional cantinas and learn about local gastronomy. These historic sites (some cantinas are 90 years old!) are famed for their bocas (Costa Rican tapas), and are gathering places for people to come play cards and share stories.

After the dance class, you will  walk through the main plaza of Escazu, past the historic church of San Miguel Arcangel (founded in 1799) and learn its tales, such as the story of Josefa.

Next, your Escazu tour will lead you to 200-year-old houses made of adobe, and we’ll learn how they were made, why they were built that way, who inhabited them, and how their families lived. You'll walk through different neighborhoods (barrios) and learn about the local daily life of the people who live there. You’ll walk down historical streets, getting to know the stories of their multicultural residents, and learn how these neighborhoods have changed over the years. You’ll get to connect with and experience the day-to-day life of the local people as you find your own pura vida
