El Ávila National Park is located at the North-Central side of Venezuela, occupying a wide mountain region of approximately 210.509 Acres, with heights oscillating between 120 meters and 2.765 meters.
Take a drive to the top of the Ávila National Park and then take a walk up the hill. Take pleasure in breathing and admiring the pure and contrasting atmosphere, a different world from the hustle and bustle of close-by Caracas. From here, you'll be able to see Caracas on one side and the Caribbean sea in the other.
In the heart of the Ávila Peak, there is a small village known as Galipan with a community of 2,500 inhabitants (galipaneros). Its name comes from the old natives who lived here called “Galipa”. Created more than 200 years ago by the first settlers from the Canary Islands, it has, as all towns in Venezuela, its church, school, and its plaza but all built into the mountain. To get to this village enjoy a ride of a 4x4 vehicle from Caracas driving up by a completely paved path. During this journey you will find kiosks attended by local people who sell local products such as fruits (strawberries, peaches, etc), marmalade, butter cookies and flowers.
Besides the Sanctuary of the Virgen de Galipan can be seen and there is a fork that leads to San José of Galipán and San Isidro of Galipán. Also we will see the Humboldt Hotel, originally opened in 1956. This hotel is one of the architectural jewels of the city made by the Venezuelan architect Tomás Sanabria.
