Start to descend and stop at Piedra de los Sombreros. Admire the views as your guide tells you all about these particular rock formations that look like Mexican hats.
After hotel pickup, your 3-hour off-road tour begins. Hop into your all-terrain vehicle, expect a Trekker or Land Rover, and prepare to be
wowed by views of the steppes, Argentine Lake and the Andes mountain range as you travel.
Your first stop is a nature viewpoint with startling sights of El Calafate and the central body of Argentine Lake. Your guide will point out where the glaciers accumulate near Boca del Diablo (Devil’s Mouth), which makes up the narrowest part of the lake. Condors soar overhead, and if you’re there on a clear day you might even see Mt Fitz Roy and Mt Torre looming over the small mountain village of El Chaltén.
Continue to ascend in your 4x4 vehicle until you reach El Laberinto de Piedras (The Stone's Labyrinth), a region where rock formations reveal fossils that date back some 85 million years to the Cretaceous period. Enjoy a snack as you take in the views and explore the area.
