As you depart Icy Strait Point, travel along the shore of Port Frederick where you will see seabirds feeding in the nutrient rich waters. Stop at the ferry terminal and scope the surrounding area for pigeon guillemots and other gulls, ducks and seabirds. Make a brief stop at an active bald eagle’s nest before heading out the road to the Long Island causeway. Scan for shorebirds, ducks, eagles, crows, ravens, cormorants, and much more.
Then, your guide will lead your small group down a trail through mixed forest and grasslands to find a wealth of passerines. Along the trail you may find warblers, sparrows, flycatchers, jays, woodpeckers, sapsuckers, wrens, kinglets, swallows, swifts, hummingbirds, creepers, chickadees and thrushes. Binoculars, rain jackets, and the highest quality spotting scopes will be provided. Whether you are an avid birder or a casual birdwatcher, your guide will help you get the most out of your Alaska experience.
