This guided tour will show you the authentic side of Mykonos. Aside from its cosmopolitan status the island has an authentic side which you will discover by touring the villages, the little harbors and its magnificent remote beaches. A unique experience you should not miss.
*Note: Suitable for cruise ship day stopsThis 4-hour tour begins at 10:30am with a pickup from your hotel or cruise port. View the island from a different point of view, full of traditional and authentic images and experiences. The first stop will be the picturesque small port of St. Ioannis, an area named after a small church dedicated to Saint Ioannis and one of great historical significance. Visit the church, along with the saint's cell where the annual fair in his name is also held. The small port in front is the starting point of the local fishing boats which are protected here from the island's strong northern winds.
Afterward, depart toward the Mykonos' airport, where you will get a panoramic view of the airport's runway and perhaps, if you are lucky enough, catch a plane taking off or landing.
Leaving the airport behind, head toward Ano Mera Village and pass through entirely different scenery. In one of the island's more typical agricultural and stock raising areas, you will observe small local cultivated fields and even some domestic animals in local family owned farms.
After capturing all these images of the Mykonian countryside and its lifestyle, you will reach the farm of the Mykonian Spiti, where you will be escorted under the directions of the farm's superintendent. Whomever wishes may also use the farm's tools and get involved with the farming work and tasks in co-operation with the superintendent. Take this opportunity to get closer to the domestic animals and the farm's traditional organic cultivation.
Next, head toward the Ano Mera village's colorful square, where Panagia Tourliani, one of the island's two monasteries, is located. Take a guided tour through its chambers. You can also get a glimpse at the nearby open-air market before your departure from the village. As you continue on, pass by some of the most distant beaches, Kalo Livadi, Kalafati and Aghia Ann, where you will get a short photo stop.
The next destination will be the abandoned establishment of the now inoperative mines of Mykonos. Until some years ago useful lignite was extracted here from the soil to be used in various ways. After, you will reach the beautiful narrow streets of Mau, at the end of which the Mykonos dam is located, constructed to meet the needs of the island's water supply. Visit one of the most magnificent northern beaches, Fokos. Right after, there will be a short stop for a traditional snack and light lunch.
Afterward, proceed to a popular site in order to capture a panoramic Mykonos Town photo opportunity. Following the picture taking, you will be driven back to your hotel or a location of your choice.
