Enjoy this day tour of Dharamshala, which offers plenty to a traveler - lofty snow peaks, deep gorges, lush green valleys, fast-flowing rivers, enchanting mountain lakes, flower-bedecked meadows, beautiful ancient temples and monasteries. This tour will also give you a chance to explore and soak in the rich culture of this area. Once you are picked up from your hotel, you will head off to McLeod Ganj to visit the Dalai Lama Temple Complex. This place, also called "Little Lhasa of Tibet" in Upper Dharamshala is known world-wide, such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama resides here. The main temple is where He gives teachings several times a year. His Holiness’ residence is located near the main temple and the headquarters of the Tibetan Government in Exile is located just below McLeod Ganj.
You will also explore the local market at Mcleod Ganj, where you can see and buy Tibetan handicrafts. Afterwards, your guide will accompany you to St. John church. The Gothic stone building of the Church was constructed in 1852. The site also has a memorial of the British Viceroy Lord Elgin and an old graveyard.
Later, take a stroll around Dal Lake. The lake is a scenic picnic spot surrounded by the forests of Deodar. Beside the lake is a temple of Durveshwar Mahadev.
Continue the tour to Tibetan Children's Villages, a non-profit charitable organization which is a community for the care and education of orphans, destitute and refugee children from Tibet. This school is mainly focused on quality modern education and an introduction to the heritage of Tibetan Buddhism.
After learning about the history of Dharamshala, your guide will take you to a restaurant to enjoy a delicious local lunch. Afterwards, you will head to Norbulingka Institute, a conservatory of Tibetan culture and museum founded by government to preserve and promote Tibetan art and culture in exile.
