Whale watching is a unique experience and Iceland has in recent years become one of
the best countries around the world for well organized whale watching. All year around you’ll be able to see a variety of whales by the Reykjavik coast. Minke and humpback whales, dolphins and harbour porpoises are among the species often seen around the coast of Iceland.
Your tour will begin in the Vesturbugt harbour area located in downtown Reykjavik. Our dedicated tour guides will provide you with the best whale watching experience possible. The summer is the peak season for all sorts of wildlife around the world, and the ocean is no different.
After your whale watching tour move over to the Whales of Iceland exhibition. Whales of Iceland is the largest exhibition of it’s kind in Europe and maybe the world. Nowhere else can you stand face to face with as many species of whales and all in actual size. The exhibition is composed of man made models of 23 whale species, all that have been found in Icelandic waters through the ages. 25 m (82 ft) long Blue whale! Full size sperm whale (Moby Dick), critically endangered North Atlantic Right whale and many more! At the exhibition you can learn all about the life and behaviour of these giants of the sea as well as listen to their singing and look into their eyes.
The experience alone, being surrounded by these giants of the sea is amazing for adults and children.
Our interactive stations are interesting and based on the latest scientific data. Learn about the biology of the Minke whale and follow the whales migration routes that we tagged and monitored by satellite on a interactive station with pictures, videos and information!
Whale watching is a natural activity governed by the laws of the weather. If the trip is cancelled due to bad weather, the whale watching part of the ticket is refunded. If no sightings are on the trip, then you have the option to go back when you want in the next 2 years!
