The Cottage Garden offers sweet scents that take you back to grandma’s house. This area is a showcase of heirloom plants popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Located between the Cottage and Canal Gardens, The Crape Myrtle Grove offers visitors a place to rest in the shade. The Canal Garden includes a water feature framed by a fountain at each end. As long as a football field, this garden offers new colors every season.
The Scroll Garden is a study in shapes and textures as well as a garden for pollinators in the frost free months. Designed in a spiral, tall plants progressively give way to ever shorter plants and The Allee Garden features a kid’s favorite — the tunnel fountain.
The Ribbon Garden is accented by a curving channel of water that ends with streams of water playing a game of leapfrog, while The Serpentine Garden is designed in a long meandering shape. It includes circular pools, each portion themed with a different color.
The Conifer is found at the end of the manicured gardens, and features an eclectic blend of cone-bearing plants both wild and ornamental.
The Enconre Azaela Garden is best viewed in the fall, when over 500 of these plants bloom.
The West Gardens feature the Nellie Rhyne Stowe White Garden. This garden always has something white in bloom, and is a favorite location for weddings.
The Orchid Conservatory is the Carolina’s only glass house — 8,000 square feet under five stories. Dedicated to the display of orchids and tropical plants, it’s a display of living, growing and ever-changing exhibits.
