Upon arrival at the dolphinarium in Cozumel, a team of expert trainers welcomes you and provides a briefing on bottlenose dolphin physiology, as well as basic training techniques like hand signals. Explore areas of the facility generally inaccessible to the public, including the food prep station, the training pool and rooms housing marine life-support equipment.
Slip on a provided life jacket and start your short but brilliant stint as a dolphin trainer. Under the trainers’ supervision, feed the dolphins and teach one of them an acrobatic trick using the techniques you just learned. To congratulate the dolphin on a job well done, tug at its fins in a handshake, and then get lost in the moment when you receive kisses and hugs from your new mammal friend.
After some TLC, it's playtime: Choose between a foot push or dorsal tow, two popular activities at many dolphinariums. Trainers are present and watching to ensure the safety of both humans and dolphins.
Next, don scuba gear and dive into deep waters to observe dolphins practice with a trainer. As they impress you with more stunning shows of agility, try to decipher their whistles and clicking sounds.
Lunch will be provided during the program at the dolphinarium restaurant. When your workday with the dolphins draws to a close, freshen up in the changing room and showers (towels and locker use provided), and take home a ‘Trainer For a Day’ certificate, a T-shirt and two preselected photos of your special moments with the bottlenose creatures.
Please note: We are sensitive to the issues surrounding dolphinariums and recognize that this activity isn't suitable for everyone.
