On December 6, 2012, UNESCO declared the Patios Festival of Córdoba as an intangible World Heritage aspect of culture. We know that throughout history patios, as physical space incorporated into private homes, have existed since the time of the Greeks. The Roman influence added water as an element to these patios, and it was the Arabs who transformed patios into a place where people socialized.
Today, we could say that a large majority of homes in the historical city center of Córdoba have patios.
The patios aren’t set up in a matter of a couple of days. The patios are the product of many years of gardening, placement, watering, hanging and enjoying these plants as much as the rest of the elements of a public space, and the enjoyment of all the senses within the framework of a private home.
We visit two "patios" of Cordoba on a tour of one hour and thirty minutes approximate duration. Accompanied by our tour guide know the history and beauty of the courtyards.
