Fly along the scenic Daintree coast to Cooktown, where Aboriginal Elder Willie Gordon, traditional story-teller of the Nugal-warra clan, takes you to his ancestral rock art sites and explains the stories behind the art. These are stories that can only be told by Elders, as they give history on the Australian identity, and sense of belonging. The elders would like to give you an insight into their culture and society, and to share ancient philosophy showing you how to engage in the environment in order to better understand yourselves.

Fly along the scenic Daintree coast to Cooktown, where Aboriginal Elder Willie Gordon, traditional story-teller of the Nugal-warra clan, takes you to his ancestral rock art sites and explains the stories behind the art. These are stories that can only be told by Elders, as they give history on the Australian identity, and sense of belonging. The elders would like to give you an insight into their culture and society, and to share ancient philosophy showing you how to engage in the environment in order to better understand yourselves.
Enjoy a 45-minute flight with spectacular views from Cairns to Cooktown as you fly along the coast between the World Heritage rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
You will be met by Willie Gordon at Cooktown Airport at approximately 8am. Willie Gordon, the traditional storyteller of the Nugal-warra clan, takes guests to his ancestral rock art sites, set high in the hills above Hope Vale, outside Cooktown. Here he shares the stories behind the art, and explains how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lores of his people.
The Rainbow Serpent tour takes you through a dramatic landscape to six rock art sites, including an ancestral Birth Cave and the Reconciliation Cave. This includes an estimated 30-minute bush walk on generally easy terrain. (Covered closed-in shoes must be worn) cameras welcome, water provided.
Return to Cooktown at 1.15pm where you have lunch at Restaurant 1770 overlooking the Endeavour River. The remainder of the afternoon is free to explore historic Cooktown before you are transferred to Cooktown Airport at 5pm for the return flight to Cairns arriving at 6.50pm.
Please note: During the winter months (May through to August) the flight departs from Cairns at sunrise and departs Cooktown at sunset. No food is served on the flight, early or packed breakfast recommended.
