Duration:  13 hours
Connemara could only be described as truly the wilderness of Ireland. Ravaged by a vicious potato famine from 1847-1851, the landscape has been left barren, inhospitable and untouched ever since, with its true and natural beauty still intact.

Connemara has it all: incredible lakes, romantic castles, old stone walls, and isolated and deserted valleys. It is easy to see why The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, and the Guard with Brendan Gleeson, have been filmed here. On this tour you will be introduced to this amazing part of Ireland, as well as the colourful and vibrant Galway city, where you will enjoy a full walking tour of the city, which is the centre of art and culture in Ireland.

As the tour meanders across the midlands of Ireland there shall be a comfort stop for refreshments and some fresh air. On arrival in Connemara, the first stop is the quaint and picturesque village of Cong, a national Tidy-Town winner and the famous setting of the Oscar winning Hollywood movie - The Quiet Man.

Cong village is home to Ashford castle, a popular spot of many famous faces and a wedding venue for a number of international celebrities. Cong is a true picture of Ireland with abbeys, medieval castles, rivers, still and quiet lakes and babbling brooks. The tour will also visit the lovely Cong Abbey, the ruins of an Augustinian monastery, before settling down for lunch in the most remarkable of villages.

From here, the tour will visit Lough Corrib. Rich with a diverse range of fish and wildlife, including otters, hawks and minks, this italic lake is the second largest lake in Ireland. The lake also consists of 356 islands, the most famous of which being Inchagoil island with its stunning views of Maumturk range, Joyce country, and the mountains of Connemara.

The tour then continues its drive through the wilderness of Connemara, where you will admire this unique landscape with its lakes, mountainous scenery and deep, isolated valleys. Ravaged by the great famine of the late 1840's and mainly Gaelic, the people of Connemara still strive to maintain traditional Irish living and rural life.

The tour returns to Galway via an area of incredible beauty, the Maam Valley. The lakes of Connemara will unravel before your eyes before the mountains of the area. You will then travel back along the coast and Galway Bay through Spiddal, marvelling at incredible views of the Atlantic's famous coastline.

Arriving in the city of the tribes and Ireland's traditional music capital, you will enjoy a walking tour of the city of Galway, taking in the highlights of the city, such as the Spanish Arch, St. Nicholas Cathedral, and amazing Shop Street where you can sample a platter of the famous Galway bay oysters.
