Delhi, the sages say, has a divided soul. It is a city of incredible contrasts combining the ancient and the modern. These two 1-day tours of Delhi will take you to both Old and New Delhi, each reflecting the images of the past and the reality of the present. See the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid, take a ride on a rickshaw, visit markets and bazaars. These day tours will help you to make the most of your time in this wonderful city. Day 1: After a 9am pick up from your hotel, proceed on a guided tour of New Delhi, visiting such sights as Humayun’s Tomb, built in 1586 and the Qutub Minar, one of the tallest minarets in the world at 240 feet (72 m) high. You will also see the Iron Pillar, which has survived the New Delhi weather for over 1500 years without corroding.

Continue with a drive through the embassy area, seeing the government buildings and Connaught Place, the heart and main shopping district of the capital. You will also visit India Gate.

Later, cross the city and into the walled gates of the Old city with visits to the Jamma Mosque and drive through the fabled area of Chandni Chowk (aptly translates to Moonlight Square) where the throngs of shoppers and vendors meet in the oldest area of Delhi. Visit the Raj Ghat and nearby ghats where the founder of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi and thereafter Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were cremated.

The highlight of this tour would be a ride on cycle rickshaws. These are 3-wheeled cycles with a sofa seat at the back. The Rickshawalla (Rickshaw driver) sits on a small cushion in the front and two passengers on the sofa seat behind. This is a remarkable way to explore the hustle and bustle, as well as the color, of the narrow winding streets bursting with people and pavement shops selling wares of all description.

After this, you will be dropped off back at your hotel.

Day 2: Today starts with a visit to Akshardham Temple (closed Mondays), then you will move to the lotus temple which is known for its stunning shape that looks like an unfurling white lotus. Admire its renowned architectural design, and then enter the temple and learn about its history from your expert guide as you enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, inviting people of all religions to worship.

Later on, move to Dilli Haat, an open-air Indian craft and food bazaar offering a large variety of handmade goods, fabrics and tasty treats that promote many of India’s cultural traditions. For lunch, enjoy food from any one of the permanent food stalls. Then, explore the market, maneuvering with ease through the stalls and communicating effortlessly with vendors with the help of your guide. Admire (and purchase if you wish) local handicrafts like ornaments, camel-skin footwear, sandalwood and rosewood carvings, gems, and a whole lot more.

After all this, you will be brought back to your hotel.
