Admire the vineyard’s beautiful setting in the shadow of the foothills while you enjoy your tasting of wines such as syrah, viognier and carmenere. Next, head into the town of Santa Cruz, the hub for Colchagua Valley’s wine tours and activities. Visit Ruta del Vino, a wine and gourmet shop where you’ll receive a bottle of reserve wine to take home with you, and then take a break for lunch.
If you choose the 'Tour plus Lunch' option, go with your guide to a cozy Santa Cruz restaurant (varies by day). If you select the 'Tour Only' option, scout out another restaurant in town, perhaps enjoy a picnic if you’ve brought your own lunch with you, or eat with your guide and group and pay separately.
When lunch is over, make your way to your second winery, either Viu Manent or Montes, to enjoy another wine tasting. Viu Manent, founded in 1935 by the Spanish Viu family, makes several wines, from single-vineyard syrah to its VIU 1 wine: a malbec made from 100-year-old vines. Montes winery produces cabernet sauvignons, malbecs and syrahs and is known for its conservation efforts and sustainable grape-growing practices.
Finally, finish your day trip at the Colchagua Museum (Museo de Colchagua) in Santa Cruz. Take a break from all the wine with an interesting look at Chile’s history. As you tour the in-depth museum, check out its displays about Chile’s pre-Columbian cultures and the Spanish conquest. You’ll also see 300-million-year-old fossils, admire ancient jewelry and art, and learn about Charles Darwin’s time in the country.
You’ll then be driven back to your Santiago hotel.
