This tour will definitely be a once in a lifetime experience. The long and demanding ascent to the summit of Mt. Hvannadalshnjúkur (2,110m) will sure be worth all the effort. On a day with good visibility you can see the glacier plateau of Vatnajökull to the north and black sandy beaches on the south part of the peak. On the way you get to see big crevasses and moulins.
To make sure that we can leave in the morning without having anything to worry about, you are meeting the guides the evening before the day of the summit. The meeting point is at our hut in Skaftafell, right next to the information center. We will discuss the most important things about the hike and provide you with the glacier equipment. If you are late or not able to make it to the hut at 18:00, you should make sure to give us a call, so that we can figure things out.
On the day of the summit we are leaving early in the morning at around 5 o´clock. Around 10-15 hours of hiking and 23km(14miles) are ahead of us. With our small group of maximum 8 people we are moving over challenging terrain and crossing crevasses. Your expert mountain guide and the specialized equipment are making sure that you will be safe at all time.
