After approximately a one hour and twenty minute drive, you'll see 'The Cliffs' rising from the Atlantic Ocean to 700 feet (214 meters) at the highest point. The Cliffs extend for 5 miles (8 kilometers) along the western seaboard of County Clare.Leaving the Viking city of Limerick in the morning and heading out for the west of Ireland, your driver/guide will provide narration regarding some of the history of this historic city like King Johns castle and about the walled trading city it once was. First, head out to the ‘Burren’ or ‘stoney ground’ or ‘rocky place’ in English while you pass through ‘Corofin’ and ‘Kilfenora’ and skirting around ‘Lisdoonvarna’ famous for its match making festival in the month of September. You'll learn about how all of these towns have stories attached and about their famous summer festivals. Next, is a place known as the ‘mini cliffs’ which is a warm up before seeing the famous cliffs which are the focus of this tour. Notice the beautiful and unusual landscape right in the heart of the Burren. It was once a coral reef under a tropical sea off the west coast of Ireland. Millions of years ago when Ireland was on the equator, 80% of the flowers and fauna of Ireland grew there on the face of the Atlantic looking out at the Arran Islands.
From this area, you'll make your way to ‘Doolin,’ a little village in the west of Ireland. It’s a great spot for lunch and they brew there own beer called ‘Dooliner’. From here, you'll head to the ‘Cliffs of Moher.’ If preferred, take a boat trip from Doolin to see the cliffs from below with spectacular views of wild life. You may see some puffins. The cliffs extend over 5 miles (7 kilometers) long and climb to 700 feet (213 meters) high. Enjoy the spectacular views and walkways around the area. From The Cliffs, you'll begin to make your way toward Limerick. Perhaps, you will want to make a stop to visit ‘Bunratty Castle.’ It's a beautiful castle and has been home to the O’ Brien family for many years and today. If you like to shop, perhaps you would rather stop at Blarney Woollen Mills shop with its treasure trove of souvenirs.
