See the surface of the ice cap of Langjökull glacier and what lies below. Be taken deep into the hidden beautiful ice below as well as explore the fjord and it's amazing waterfalls. We will depart early from Reykjavík city and get the crisp morning view of the glacier and the ice-cave. Our first destination will be Langjökull Glacier, where the Ice Cave is situated. Langjökull is 953 sq/km, making it the second largest glacier in Iceland.
You will soon find out that in Iceland, everything is possible - swiftly and suddenly you will find yourself standing on top of an ice-cap, ready to go down below the surface and explore what lies beneath.
In order to get there we will ride in a specially modified glacier vehicle. The Ice Tunnel or Ice Cave is man made glacier cave that is situated high up in a the remote area of an Ice Cap in the heart of Iceland. Your guide will explain to you how global warming has effected the surrounding area.
Your expert guide will take you on a magical journey, deep with in the glacier where you will see the stunning blue glacier ice. The glacier is in constant motion, and we do our best to keep up with him. It is an entertaining job, since no day is ever the same - and we can see the movement of nature itself first hand.
Until very recently what lies beneath the surface of Langjökull was a mystery. Sometimes bold ideas can come to life, but the realisation of this idea was only possible with great effort and help from top engineers and renowned geo physicist. The temperature inside the glacier is usually around 0 degrees Celsius or 32 Fahrenheit.
Afterwards we will jump into the warmth of the glacier vehicle. We will eat lunch at the stunning Hotel Húsafell and then once our bellies are full, the day trip of Borgarfjörður valley can begin. We will see Hraunfossar, a picturesque lava waterfall.
