Thousands of people throng to the city every balmy winter to check out Los Alumbrados, a dreamy light show that brings flocks of visitors, vendors and street performers to city blocks.
It's an extravagant tradition, upwards of 500 activities and 80 events occur throughout the season, that has earned the city a spot on National Geographic’s top 10 places to admire holiday lights.
See for yourself when you climb aboard the vehicle at your hotel to take you to join the city’s celebration and holiday spirit, Paisa style.
During the 3.5-hour tour, stretch your legs every so often and walk around different light exhibits, or purchase a snack or beverage (some water or juice will be provided). Your guide will recommend locations to visit that night, and your group can decide how much time to spend at each site.
The Medellín river area attracts the biggest crowds, as the most grandiose lighting schemes are adorned along the riverbanks. Oversized 3-D ornaments of angels or nativity-themed figures may be revolving across the river or from treetops. When you leave the masses and cruise down alternate routes, you may feel like you’re traveling through constellations of five-pointed stars, strung across streets and highways. As you pass through La Playa city center, soft swirly lights of blues and yellows may remind you of van Gogh’s Starry Night.
Discover new wonders as you make your way through the decorated stadium, the lit-up spires of Parque de la Luces and the wealthy district of El Poblado. Drive through the outskirt towns of Envigado and Itaguí and disembark to wander through their main squares bedecked with holiday decorations.
When the tour concludes, you will be dropped off at your hotel or if you prefer, some other location in the city.
