During this chopstick making workshop, you can create your own personal, unique pair of chopsticks from smoked bamboo. Learn to carve and shape them to be just right for you.In Kyoto, traditionally, there are various kinds of bamboo products made of a great variety of bamboo. For many centuries, the people of Kyoto have had a tradition of making many different items out of bamboo.
Meet at the Yokoyama Bamboo Products Company(TAKENOKO) at 9am for the chopstick making experience. During this workshop, you will enjoy learning to make soot bamboo chopsticks by yourself. Scrape and shave the bamboo with a knife to the thickness you prefer and then finish it by sandpaper. The soot bamboo chopsticks that you will be making is a traditional, handmade craft that has been passed on from generation to generation.
It takes about 2 hours to complete the work to make your soot bamboo chopsticks; afterwards, you can take your soot bamboo chopsticks back home with you.
