Choose a seat at one of the tables, and pick up your picnic-style gourmet box lunch, which comes with beer and wine from the open bar. When the Chicago Air & Water Show begins, you'll be wowed by your amazing view of the jaw-dropping turns, dives and other aerial tricks performed by four headliner teams — the US Navy Blue Angels, US Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, US Navy Parachute Team Leap Frogs and the Breitling Jet Team. Twelve other teams also perform.
The Blue Angels are operated by an elite team of pilots who fly six F/A 18 Hornets in precisely choreographed formations. The Golden Knights are known for jumping from heights up to 12,500 feet (3,810 meters), descending at high speeds before releasing their parachutes to land on North Avenue Beach. The 14 members of the Leap Frogs typically create intricate parachute formations after deploying their parachutes at 5,000 feet (1,524 meters).
The Breitling Jet Team comes from France and is performing in North America for the first time at this year's show. These pilots are known for high-speed maneuvers in L-39 C Albatros jets that can travel up to 565 mph (910 kph). Other performances feature heritage airplanes and veterans of aerobatics competitions.
At a point during your visit, a staff member will escort your party up to the 103rd floor to experience the Ledge, four glass-enclosed rooms that extend out from the tower. Walk onto the clear glass floor, and look down to the ground 1,353 feet (412 meters) below.
