Nineteen centuries later, the mining industry re-emerged with technology taken from Great Britain’s Cornwall and new deposits of iron, lead and zinc being discovered.
Join a small tourist train which will transport you back in time and deep underground to learn about the foundation of the city of Cartagena.
Visit the awe inspiring Agrupa Vicenta Mine, covering more than 4,000 sq meters. Learn about the minerals that were mined here and visit the ancient washery where extracted minerals were separated according to value.
A panoramic tour of the nearby town of Portman will show you another side of this ancient Spanish mining community. Be astounded by the harsh and ravaged landscape where huge mountains are scarred and stripped of their natural resources.
