You will drive to Cai Be (2.5 hours from Ho Chi Minh City), then take a boat trip along the Mekong River down to the city's main attraction – the Cai Be floating market. This is a focal point of the Mekong Delta where the Tien River forms the natural border between Tien Giang, Vinh Long, and Ben Tre provinces.
The Cai Be floating market is one of the most well-known and the biggest wholesale markets in the western region of Southern Vietnam; also formed during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century. Traders live on the river and some link their lives with boats like their mobile houses for generations. The products are hung on a pole in front of the boats to help customers see what they would like to buy from afar. This helps the customers shop much more efficiently.
Lunch will be served at a local house set among fruit orchards and bonsai trees where you will try delicious traditional dishes. Depending on the season, a sample of local tropical fruit will be served with lunch in the shade of a local farmer's home before returning on the leisurely cruise back to Cai Be.
Hand–rowing sampans will take us along the small green canals and give us the chance to observe daily life on the waterways. You then continue the cruise to a local factory to visit and learn how pop rice, pop corn, rice paper and coconut candies are made. You also have an opportunity to taste these products served with hot green tea. Return to the boat and discover the beautiful and peaceful scenery together with the typical life of the region along the Mekong River. Stops and visits can be made during the excursion.
At around 14:30 PM we will drive back to Ho Chi Minh City
