Meet your food-loving guide in central Budapest, and walk to the nearby Great Market Hall, Budapest’s largest and oldest indoor market.

Admire the 19th-century building and hear how it’s an essential daily stop for local food shoppers. As you explore, learn about Hungary’s gastronomy from your guide, and discover the produce and influences that have shaped its cuisine.

Peruse the stalls selling charcuterie, spices and smoked cheese, and stop at some of the best to sample the goodies for yourself. Taste everything from lángos and turo ridi chocolate-coated cottage cheese to cured meat, and perhaps down a glass of Unicum, the local, bitter-tasting herbal liquor.

Next, board a comfortable minivan and drive into the acclaimed wine region of Etyek-Buda, famed for its sparkling wines made from pinot gris and sauvignon blanc grapes.

Drive past picturesque vineyards and, after around 30 minutes, arrive in Etyek, the region’s main town and home to several family-run wineries.

Visit a restaurant and sit down to a delicious 3-course lunch (see the Itinerary for a sample menu) along with five or six wine tastings. Alternatively — the venue may change on each tour — head for a cozy winery and savor a tasty home-made lunch that may typically include a cheese and charcuterie platter, goulash (Hungarian stew) and strudel, washed down with five to six samples of wine.

Then, follow your guide to another local winery, where you’ll enjoy a vineyard tour and more tastings. Settle in and wrap your taste buds around another five to six varietals as the expert winemaker regales you with interesting facts about how the wines are cultivated and the history of winemaking in the region.

After, return to Budapest, where your tour ends with a hotel drop-off.
