Leave your centrally located Budapest hotel in an air-conditioned minivan and head for the famous Chain Bridge on the Danube River. View the massive edifice, which was built in 1849 and was the first permanent bridge between Buda and Pest.
Pass the vast, neo-Gothic Parliament Building and cross the Margaret Bridge to the UNESCO-listed Buda Castle District. This fortified hilltop district dates to the 13th century and reached it zenith in the 15th century, when Hungary’s King Matthias built a palace here. Explore the cobbled streets and view its showpiece monuments, such as the Matthias Church and Buda Castle (also called the Royal Palace). Then walk onto the Fisherman’s Bastion terrace to drink in the stunning views of the city and Danube below.
After a stop at Gellért Hill, cross the Elizabeth Bridge and head into Pest to see the Central Market Hall, Dohány Street Synagogue, Budapest Zoo and Széchenyi Baths. Hear interesting facts from your guide as you stop at Heroes’ Square and then drive down elegant Andrássy Avenue to see the Opera House and St Stephen’s Basilica.
After your 3-hour tour, make your own way to the Danube’s bank to catch your cruise at your chosen departure time. Relax on deck or in the cabin, and admire Budapest as you sail along the Danube, enjoying a complimentary soda as you go. See the Parliament Building, the Buda Castle District and other landmarks from the water, giving you a whole new perspective on the city.
After roughly an hour, your ship returns to the pier, where your sightseeing experience finishes.
