Discover a region like no other exists anymore in Europe nowadays: Transylvania. You will travel by private car and have your own driver-guide to help you discover the rich history and culture of the fascinating places you will visit. You will enjoy visiting the beautiful cities of Brasov and Sibiu, the medieval jewel of Sighisoara, an UNESCO world heritage site, and picturesque villages like Viscri and Biertan. And the nature between all this places will enchant you.Day 1: Arrival at the Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport and transfer to your centrally-located boutique hotel in Bucharest. In the late afternoon discover the Old Town of Bucharest.
Day 2: Start your day by driving through The Prahova Valley, towards the Carpathian mountains. In Sinaia visit the 17th century Sinaia monastery, and the Peles Castle, the summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family...Later, visit in Bran the famous castle from the 14th century, which gained the nick-name of “Dracula Castle”. In the afternoon arrive in the city of Brasov, one of the most beautiful medieval cities of Transylvania.
Day 3: In the morning, discover the area around Brasov. You will visit two villages which were founded by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century and were then taken over by the Saxon settlers: Prejmer and Harman. In Prejmer strong defense walls guard the Lutheran church and the approximately 200 storage rooms. In the next village, Harman, you will discover some of the few remaining medieval frescoes in Transylvania. In the afternoon drive deeper into Transylvania and arrive in the tiny village of Valea Zalanului, set among rolling hills and forests. You will be accommodated in the private property of HRH Prince Charles of Wales.
Day 4: Through magnificent hills and forests arrive in the small village of Viscri. Many of the old Saxon houses have been beautifully restored, as well as the medieval Saxon fortified church. In the afternoon you will arrive in Sighisoara, one of Europe’s last inhabited medieval citadels. Your hotel lies in the heart of the citadel! On a walking tour discover centuries of history.
Day 5: Leave Sighisoara and continue your journey to Malancrav, which lies in a small side valley. Not far away from Malancrav lies the village of Biertan. Here you will visit the most enchanting villages of Transylvania. Biertan was also declared an UNESCO Heritage Site. In the late afternoon arrive in the city of Sibiu, the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2007.
Day 6: On a walking tour discover the Old Town of Sibiu. The old part of the city is incredibly well preserved, a combination of medieval and Baroque elements, dating back to the period when the city was under Hapsburg rule. The afternoon is at leisure so that you can discover more of Sibiu on your own.
Day 7: Today you will leave Transylvania and drive through the Olt Valley to the Romanian capital, Bucharest, called in the time between the two World Wars “The Paris of the East”.
Day 8: Your Transylvania tour ends. Transfer to the airport is included.
