The Bombay Sapphire Distillery is based at Laverstoke Mill, and sits in a leafy conservation area astride the River Test, just 60 miles from London and 15 miles from Winchester. The site dates back to the 10th century; but was most notably a Victorian paper mill, which once produced all the banknote paper for the Bank of England and the British Empire.

Visitors to the Bombay Sapphire Distillery on the self-discovery tour initially come out into the courtyard, where they can take in the sprawling Victorian architecture and walk around the distillery listening to interactive audio points. These points allow you to find out about the history of gin, Laverstoke Mill, and Bombay Sapphire, in as much or as little detail as you like. The distillery’s centrepiece is two magnificent intertwining glasshouses, which contain living examples of all ten botanicals found in Bombay Sapphire gin. Visitors can wander through the botanical Dry Room to smell and taste the dried examples of the botanicals, which guides them towards the ideal complimentary cocktail they can order from the bar later in their experience.

Visitors can go behind the scenes through the working Dakin Still House, which is bustling around the clock with the sounds of the creation of Bombay Sapphire gin. Your friendly hosts explain the unique vapour infusion process to the guests, and they can even taste a very small sample of the gin as it comes off the still (at approximately 80% ABV!). The experience finishes with a cocktail suited to your unique flavour profile in the Mill Bar, and the opportunity to purchase Bombay Sapphire gin and cocktail making equipment in the shop.
